The Monorail. Left hand or cello hand.
Take your middle finger and place in-between the D and the G string, have the fingernail facing the bridge and the finger tall. Now pull the finger back to first position and place the thumb directly underneath the second finger to make a round shape. Now ‘blob’ the fingers all in a line on the fingerboard in-between the strings. Remember to keep the wing up high and support under the wrist. Then lean the fingers back a little off center so the fingers can ‘fan’ out into position.
Pizza Blob Hand
Left hand exercise. Focus on the ‘wing’ dropping the “blob” hand down onto the fingerboard in roughly first position. Remember to keep the wing high with elbow facing out to the wall. As well, watch that the shoulder is not creeping up towards the ear.
With the cello hand execute a monorail or tunnel and then have the second finger turn into a ski-jumper. Turn the fingernail towards the bridge, and follow the pathway down the string between the A and D string and let the jumper ‘fly’ off near the end of the fingerboard. This is excellent for the motion in the left arm.
