One of the most critical components of this lesson is paying attention to what the ‘wing’ is doing. Make sure that the string crossing motion is always initiated from the arm and you can see movement to each string from the elbow. It is also imperative that you maintain a proper ‘arch’ from the hand to the elbow (underneath the wrist). These exercises are presented together for ease, they truly are meant to accomplish 1 level at a time. Start with level 1 and only proceed to level 2 and 3 after you have mastered the previous level. This is done as a stand alone practice point along with your other lessons. Try for a couple of minutes on it a day until the motion is fluid and natural. This is a fantastic exercise to use throughout your entire experience with the cello.
