We use harmonics a lot in cello playing so I thought I’d introduce them to you here as they are quite fun to play and fool around with. One of the most important things to remember is not to let your left arm rest on the shoulder of the cello… let me repeat that… do not to let your left arm rest on the shoulder of the cello! It will make a big difference. Another good tip for you: If you are having a hard time with the sound of the harmonics and they don’t seem that clear, try moving your bow a bit faster it really helps. This essentially is an exercise in 5th position as well as the added bonus of a bow speed exercise. Enjoy!
